My Fellow Earthlings

We recently had the privilege of sitting down with Sydney and Chris Seggie, the husband and wife team behind the ultra-cool eyewear company Fellow Earthlings. These guys are awesome.

Q: What is Fellow Earthlings?

A: A handmade custom eyewear design and production company based in Guernsey Cove, P.E.I. Specializing in design and prototype work, short-run production and online retail handmade to order.

Q: When did you guys start and where did the inspiration come from?

A: After working in the eyewear industry internationally and having a strong desire to return to Canada to begin our family we had a unique opportunity to do an apprenticeship in P.E.I. with an eyewear maker who has been hand making frames for more than 50 years. The island has a history of eyewear manufacturing leather covered aviators in the 80's for RayBan when it was owned by Bausch & Lomb. We wanted to offer handmade eyewear, made in Canada, by the seaside. We were inspired by nature and our surroundings, our family, our friends and neighbours. We are all fellow earthlings.

Q: What was it like making the decision to start your own business?

A: Scary and exciting! A million things and a lot of hard work but if that's what you want then it's an easy decision.

Q: Any personal favourites?

A: The Dewie is our original shape and the one we personally wear.

Q: Any business/life lessons you've learned along the way?

A: To always listen. There's always more you can learn.

Q: What about plans for the future?

A: Keep collaborating on product with great Canadian made brands like Tuck Shop. Continue to expand our handmade to order shape offering online. We want to expand into metals; we've recently acquired the equipment to begin doing metal production in the future. We always want to keep expanding our possibilities.

Thanks, guys :)
