  • Something different...

    Something different...

Last weekend we opened our family cabin in Algonquin Park. Our grandfather built it in the 1940's; it also happens to be on the same lake where we went to summer camp for (too) many years. The people we've met there are still great friends, and we doubt that will ever change. Sufficed to say, this is a special place for us, and a constant reminder of how lucky we are. Without it, Tuck Shop simply wouldn't exist.

This is a place that deserves to be shared, and it was in this spirit that The Taylor Statten Camping Bursary Fund (est.1972) was created. For families that need assistance bridging the gap between camp fees and their financial means, the TSCBF offers support that can be put towards any camp that is an accredited member of the Ontario Camps Association or Canadian Camping Association.

Help send kids to camp through tscbf.com, or pick up one of our Canoe Lake toques; all proceeds are donated directly to the Bursary. It's a cause that means a great deal to us, and we hope it means something to you, too :)

    'Til next time,
    Tuck Shop

  • GET LOST Tuck Shop Co. + Bather Trunk Co. Swimwear

Can we talk about summer yet? Good, that means long weekends, cocktails on the dock, and vintage map bathing suits (for us, anyway).

We wanted to do something a little different for our first summer collection, so we hooked up with Bather Trunk Co.'s Kyle Kaminsky - The Sultan of Swimwear himself! - to develop a custom fabric that would let us lounge in style. Our shared fascination with vintage maps gave rise to the fabric that became the foundation of our GET LOST swimwear collection.

Kyle makes the best men's swim trunks you can get your hands on, so we left the pattern making to him. For the women's one piece we worked with Danica Salajko of Toronto's own Bathing Belle to design the best high leg, low back one piece you ever did see. We like to work with the best, to bring you the best.

The collection is currently in production, but if you're anything like us, you probably don't want to wait; so we're launching both men's and women's suits for pre sale TODAY. All preorders will be fulfilled on May 18th, just in time for the long weekend.

    xoxo

PS We've also been working on towels and tote bags... when their done you'll be the first to know.

  • My Fellow Earthlings

We recently had the privilege of sitting down with Sydney and Chris Seggie, the husband and wife team behind the ultra-cool eyewear company Fellow Earthlings. These guys are awesome.

    Q: What is Fellow Earthlings?

A: A handmade custom eyewear design and production company based in Guernsey Cove, P.E.I. Specializing in design and prototype work, short-run production and online retail handmade to order.

Q: When did you guys start and where did the inspiration come from?

A: After working in the eyewear industry internationally and having a strong desire to return to Canada to begin our family we had a unique opportunity to do an apprenticeship in P.E.I. with an eyewear maker who has been hand making frames for more than 50 years. The island has a history of eyewear manufacturing leather covered aviators in the 80's for RayBan when it was owned by Bausch & Lomb. We wanted to offer handmade eyewear, made in Canada, by the seaside. We were inspired by nature and our surroundings, our family, our friends and neighbours. We are all fellow earthlings.

Q: What was it like making the decision to start your own business?

A: Scary and exciting! A million things and a lot of hard work but if that's what you want then it's an easy decision.

    Q: Any personal favourites?

A: The Dewie is our original shape and the one we personally wear.

Q: Any business/life lessons you've learned along the way?

A: To always listen. There's always more you can learn.

Q: What about plans for the future?

A: Keep collaborating on product with great Canadian made brands like Tuck Shop. Continue to expand our handmade to order shape offering online. We want to expand into metals; we've recently acquired the equipment to begin doing metal production in the future. We always want to keep expanding our possibilities.

    Thanks, guys :)
